 the "old" rectory

Today, it is not much that is reminiscent of the proud yard of the rectory, including home for the priest, a contracted farmer and perhaps eight to ten different buildings located here until the end of the 1960s.

It is uncertain where the yard of the old farm "Førde med Skei" was located. After the priest Peder Finde bought it in 1661 and split the property into Førde Rectory and the Skei farm, the yard of the rectory was located here. There is reason to believe that this was where the yard of the old farm was also located initially. The location is at the edge of the moraine with a good view to and at a safe distance from the ever-flowing river. Today, it may be difficult to envisage since the “lonely” priest’s house is located in between Førdehuset, the school, kindergardens and the parking lot.

The house, which today is located on the property of the old rectory, was created by architect Landmark in Bergen and raised in 1924. The old rectory house from around 1830 was in very bad conditions, and the idea was to build the new in a style similar to the old one. The old house was not demolished before the new one was finished. Wood material from the house was re-used when “new” retirement homes were built at Grovene.

In 1975, the property “retired” as a rectory. The municipality bought the local District judges farm at Volden, the priest moved there, and the old rectory was rented out.
